Audrey Virginia Fries, aged to 77, of Fremont, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2009, at her home in Fremont.  Audrey was born on November 17, 1931, in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, to Walter and Erma (Kegler) Mandel and married William Fries Sr. on September 6, 1952, in Chula Vista, California.  Audrey was an Administrative Assistant in the Market Research Department at Gerber Products Company for many years prior to her retirement in 1996.  She was a member of the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ, Benefactor of the Rotary Foundation, member of the Eastern Star, and loved world traveling.  Both Audrey and Bill have many fond memories of winters and summers in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany.  They have also developed a love of their cottage in Ontario, Canada which they share with their extended family and friends.

 

Audrey is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Bill Fries Sr. of Fremont;  children, William (Linda) Fries Jr. of Fremont, Peter (Leslye) Fries of Ensley Center, John Fries of Newaygo, and Elizabeth (Michael) Rogers of Fremont; 10 grandchildren, Ryan, Melissa, Carey, Brighton, Sophia, Anthony, Angelica, Andrew, Stephanie, and Matthew; 4 great-grandchildren, Serena, William, Jane Audrey, and  Joslyn; brother, Kenneth Mandel of Madison, Wisconsin; sister, Claire (Charles) Gibson of Gurnee, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews; and her beloved Rotary exchange student from Doonan, QLD, Australia Steve Macpherson.  She was preceded in death by her brother James Mandel.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at the First Congregational Church United Church Of Christ in Fremont with Rev. Ray Dekker officiating.  Visitation will be held on Monday from 6 - 8 pm at the Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont.  Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.  For a more lasting memorial friends are asked to consider The Rotary Foundation or the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ.  Friends may send a condolence or share a memory online at www.crandellfh.com.  Arrangements by Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel.
